This course is the first of 3 training courses that make up the Money and Pensions Service accredited CMA Award in Generalist Debt Advice. This course is suitable for those with no previous experience of debt advice.

- The Debt Advice Process
- First Interview and Factfinder
- Recognising Emergency Situations
- Maximising Income and Minimising Expenditure
- Identifying Creditors / Credit Reports
- Establishing Liability for Debt
- Homework and Next Steps
Training Manuals are provided for each delegate in both pdf and hardcopy format.
There is a Client Interview & Fact Finding activity following this course which will take 1-2 hours to complete.
The CMA Award in Generalist Debt Advice comprises Parts 1, 2 & 3. Each course should be taken in sequence. The activity sets accredited in this award are: Initial Contact, Support Work & Advice Work.

There are no prerequisites for this course.
Debt Advice is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and this training is appropriate for people working or volunteering in an FCA regulated setting.
